The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin
Ordinarily, this would not be a first pick for me to read as I'm not into romance books of any kind. That being said, it is always nice to diversify your reading and when doing so, you may stumble upon a gem of a story that will hold you in the moment and far into the future. This was that book. It was a very easy read with a lot happening along the way to keep you thoroughly engaged throughout the story telling. The story is being told in the first person, recounting the ordeal of surviving a plane crash, and attempting to get off the mountain before they die from the elements or worse.
This is not your typical survival story, of which I was expecting. This book had me on an emotional roller coaster throughout and I loved every minute of it, and when the time is right, the author hits you with a sledgehammer, that you don't see coming. Throughout the story, the author makes profound statements that make you stop and think, and this is part of the beauty of the book. There are actually two stories being told. One of the human spirit and one of the internal journey of the characters. I recommend this book for anyone. It is an absolutely great read. Four and a 1/2 Stars.
